The For Purpose Markets began with a bold idea: Canberra deserves a space where businesses that do good can thrive together.

In early 2025, a group of local social enterprises and community organisations came together to explore the vision of a permanent For Purpose Precinct — a vibrant hub for inclusive employment, small business growth, workshops, arts, food, events and connection.

While we work towards that long-term goal, we started by testing the idea in a simple way: a monthly market.

​

Since May 2025, the For Purpose Markets in Dickson have brought together Canberra’s social enterprises and for-purpose businesses in one welcoming space. Each month features ethical stallholders, live music, workshops and community connection — and the movement keeps growing.

Every purchase made at the markets supports businesses creating real impact across our community — from inclusive employment to environmental sustainability, mental health, refugee support and LGBTQI+ inclusion.

And this is just the beginning.
